It’s “All the Fun of the Fair” but indoors in the Expo Center on the New York State Fairgrounds. Featuring the food, rides, music and entertainment that people enjoy in the summer, is now an annual event in the middle of winter. For the debut this year back in February, Winter Fair had over 25,000 people in attendance! This major event will take place Friday, February 7 through Sunday, February 9. Advanced sale tickets are available at www.nyswinterfair.com. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for teens/pre-teens and seniors. Children 10 and under will be admitted free of charge. At the door, admission is $7 for adults and $5 for teens/pre-teens and seniors. Children 10 and under will be admitted free of charge.

Winter Fair 2020 will take place again inside the Expo Center, which is the largest open space venue outside New York City between Boston and Cleveland. Winter Fair 2020 will fill the Expo Center with a variety of food vendors, crafters, businesses, and non-profit organizations along with rides, entertainment and special features.

A new addition to Winter Fair 2020 is Winter Fireworks! The 20-minute display from Majestic Fireworks will take place on Friday February 7 at 9:30pm and on Saturday February 8 at 9:30pm. Winter Fireworks are very special, since the colors are brighter with the crisper air. It will be a great sight to see wrapping up each day on Friday and Saturday.
The Winter Fair fireworks are sponsored by Onondaga County. County Executive Ryan McMahon supports Winter Fair. He notes, “it helps drive the economic activity that pays for local government. Sales tax is our number one revenue for both the county and city government. You need to invest back into events that will help grow that revenue, and have people come out and spend money, have people from outside the area come here. This event will help continue to enhance arts and culture experience, that entertainment experience.”
For Winter Fair 2020, The New York State Fair is a Promotional Partner. “We’re very excited to have Winter Fair back among the dozens of events that call the New York State Fairgrounds home. It’s a great way to brighten a Central New York winter and we wish Winter Fair a strong and successful second year,” said Troy Waffner, State Fair Director.
The New York State Fair and other events at the Fairgrounds are an attraction to bring people to Syracuse and Onondaga County. We are the heart of New York. Winter Fair is a community event for Central New York and is also an economic boost bringing in people from across New York State. For those travelers coming in from out of the town, the Official Winter Fair Hotel is the Embassy Suites at Destiny USA.
It’s rare during the winter to have a chance to enjoy rides, amusements and games. Winter Fair 2020 again will feature a Mini-Midway. Kevin Jankowicz, an owner of Main Events Amusements, provider of the Mini-Midway, commented: “the Mini-Midway was welcomed fun for the kids and their families. For Winter Fair 2020, we are expanding the Mini-Midway. The big ride attraction was the Ferris Wheel. So, for Winter Fair 2020, we will have 2 Ferris Wheels! Also we are adding the Avengers ride and we’ll have at least 15 rides in the Mini-Midway. There will be games, amusements and carnival food, too!” A complete list of rides and cost will be available in January at the Winter Fair website. The Mini-Midway is sponsored by Tarson Pools and Spas and Cabot Cheese.
Where can you get pizze fritte in the winter? Of course at Winter Fair 2020! A staple of the Fair, Villa Pizze Fritte will be there along with Fair favorites such as Kikk’s Authentic Greek Food, BBQ with Limp Lizard, southern comfort food with Henry’s Hen House, and State Fair Sausage, Hoffmann Hot Dogs, Coneys, prime ribs sandwiches from Bosco’s at the Fair. New food vendors will include Baked Potato Express and Glazed & Confused Donuts. A complete list of food vendors with their menus will be online in January at the Winter Fair website.
There will be wall-to-wall entertainment at Winter Fair 2020. Headliners will include, on Friday February 7th: Menage A Soul, Barndogs featuring Miss E and the 8-piece funk, pop and R&B band: Atlas; on Saturday it’s Just Joe, Brownskin with Joe Driscoll and closing at the evening will be Hard Promises; Sunday will wrap up the day with Country Swagg. Earlier in the day there will be special entertainment including the winner of the Jewish Community Center Battle of the Bands and a 90-minute Gospel Sunday program under the direction of Dr. Joan Hillsman. Gospel Sunday is presented by the NAACP.
Additional features will highlight the Six Nations Native American dancers, martial arts demonstrations with Karate John’s, Irish dancers, a fashion show and a Fair favorite, Hilby, the Skinny German Juggle Boy. Hilby will be at Winter Fair 2020 on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th. Yes, the Ice Sculptures will be back lining the walkway to the Expo Center. Bath Fitter will be the Main Winter Fair Ice Sculpture Sponsor. Additional Ice Sculptures are sponsored by WellNow and Metro Mattress.
Winter Fair 2020 will include as well, fundraisers. The NAACP will be managing the Coat Check and will receive a portion of the proceeds. A check for $1000 was presented to the NAACP after the debut Winter Fair event.
Winter Fair Hoops with return with attendances shooting baskets and winning prizes for a good cause. This past year $3600 was raised to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Syracuse through the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Syracuse is grateful for the funds raised during Winter Fair 2019, as it was able to provide support for our daily programming efforts. We are excited to see our community again at this years event, ” said Jeff Eysaman – Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of Syracuse.
